Heard little news from Perseverance & Co. recently? Every two years, Mars' and Earth's positions align in a way that places the Sun between the two planets. This so-called solar conjunction significantly impacts how we can communicate to and from Mars. When the Sun sits between us and the Red Planet, hot, ionized gases can interfere with the radio signals, posing a risk to communication. Therefore, Perseverance remains parked in the same place for the duration of the solar conjunction. This image shows Perseverance's parking spot, from where it is ready to take up commands again in a few days.

A whirlwind of shapes and colors... 💫

Due to their strong gravitational forces, galaxies group together in larger clusters. This image is a composite of data from the James Webb Space Telescope and its predecessor Hubble. It shows the galaxy cluster MACS0416, around 4.3 billion light-years away.

Hubble's wavelength range best detects visible light, which shows nearby galaxies with younger stars in a blue light. The more distant galaxies appear redder, better viewed in Webb's infrared wavelengths.

Gravity is also what causes some objects to appear as streaks through the image: As the light travels through the universe from its source to a telescope's lens, very massive objects along the way distort the light's path.
